“My uncle once asked me, ‘Are you a virgin?’ when I was already 27 years old. From that moment, I started to be afraid of him. And a few days later, when he took me to a hotel outside the city, he leaned close to my ear by the pool and whispered, ‘After the pool, come up to my room…’”

Richard leaned forward, resting his elbows on the desk and looking straight into my eyes with intense sincerity. “Because the corporation responsible for that accident spent decades trying to bury the truth, and they threatened our entire family to keep us silent.”

He explained that after the initial lawsuit concluded, a multi-million dollar trust was established to secure our family’s future, protected by layers of anonymous corporate insurance policies.

“For years, your father used a portion of those funds to secure our safety, and he even looked into various life insurance quotes to ensure you would be completely taken care of if anything ever happened to him,” Richard continued.

“Then why are we looking at all of this now?” I asked, feeling a mixture of fear and profound relief washing over me. “What changed over this past year that made you act so paranoid?”

Richard pointed to a recent document on the desk, dated just a few weeks prior. “Someone has been trying to access the dormant trust fund using your father’s old credentials, Emily. That means whoever forced him into silence all those years ago is back, and they are looking for you.”…The chilling reality of his words hit me like a physical blow, instantly dissolving the lingering anger and suspicion I had felt toward my uncle. All his strange questions, his sudden urgency, and his secretive trip out of town had been desperate attempts to keep me out of the crosshairs of dangerous people.
