Part 2:

Inside the large white box was a carefully arranged collection that hit like a slap.

On top was a thick stack of old photographs.

The first one: me, exhausted, feeding newborn Adele at 3 a.m. while Maya’s side of the bed was already empty. Next: me braiding six little girls’ hair before school, lunchboxes lined up on the counter. Then school plays where I sat alone in the front row, clapping the loudest. Hospital visits when the twins had pneumonia. Birthday parties I threw with handmade cakes because we couldn’t afford anything fancy. Report cards. Dance recitals. First heartbreaks. Prom nights. All the moments Maya had missed.

Beneath the photos was a thick binder.

Adele had titled it in elegant gold lettering: “A Mother’s Love – 15 Years of Absence”

Inside were handwritten letters from every single daughter.

Adele’s letter was on top. She read it out loud, her voice steady and clear in front of all 150 guests:

“Mom, you left when I was nine months old. You chose a rich man’s Maldives trips over changing my diapers. You chose luxury over every bedtime story, every fever, every nightmare. Dad raised us alone. He gave up his dreams so we could have ours. Today, on my wedding day, I wanted to give you something you never gave us — the truth.”
