I’m sixty-three years old, and after spending most of my life taking care of everyone else, I finally decided I was done apologizing for enjoying myself.

During our  family vacation, I bought a bikini I absolutely loved, walked down to the beach, and asked my sister to take a few pictures of me.

I wasn’t trying to impress anyone.

I simply felt happy.

But when my daughter-in-law, Jessica, saw the photos later that evening, she burst out laughing.

“At your age?” she said loudly enough for everyone around the dinner table to hear. “You actually went outside dressed like THAT?”
